Sheds, hot tubs and utility uses

Concrete pads for residential properties

The intended use should determine how a concrete pad is planned. A shed, mechanical unit and filled hot tub do not place the same demands on the slab.

01

Start with what the pad supports

Dimensions, loaded weight, anchor locations and access around the finished item should be known before forming. An approximate footprint can leave an exposed shelf around a shed or put equipment too close to an edge.

02

Fit the pad into the yard

The pad should not interrupt an existing drainage route or create a new low point. Gates, fences and planting also affect construction access and future service access.

03

Choose the specific pad

A shed pad starts with the shed footprint and anchoring plan. A hot-tub pad follows the spa manufacturer’s requirements and needs electrical and service coordination. A garage slab has building, vehicle, door and threshold considerations.
