Surface comparison
Comparing concrete finishes
Finish selection changes the appearance, texture and maintenance of the surface. It does not replace the need to get the preparation and elevations right underneath it.

Broom finish keeps the surface direct
Fine lines are drawn across fresh concrete to form a straightforward exterior texture. It is widely suited to driveways, side-yard walks, utility pads and patios where pattern and colour are not the main design goal.
Broom work still has visual decisions: direction, consistency, edge treatment and joint layout remain visible. Its simpler finish system generally makes future cleaning and appearance expectations easier to understand.
Exposed aggregate makes the stone visible
The surface is treated and finished so aggregate near the top is revealed. Natural material variation becomes part of the appearance, giving driveways and walks a more pronounced texture than broom finish.
Exposure level affects feel and appearance. Homeowners should also consider cleaning, any sealing plan and how the texture suits barefoot areas or furniture. Explore exposed aggregate.
Stamped concrete adds pattern and colour
Patterning tools and colour methods create a decorative field for selected patios, walks and entrances. Pattern scale should fit the area; a large module can feel crowded on a narrow path.
Sealers may deepen colour or change sheen and normally introduce future maintenance. Joints are still required and should be coordinated with the pattern. Review stamped concrete considerations.
Borders and combinations
A plain field with an exposed or coloured border can define an entrance without patterning the entire slab. Combinations work best when their lines also make sense with slab edges and joints.
Adding more finishes adds more decisions and meeting points. On a compact walkway or patio, one coherent material often reads more clearly than several bands competing for limited space.
