What homeowners will observe
How a residential concrete project is built
The sequence changes with access and scope, but the natural phases stay recognizable. Much of the work that affects the slab happens before the concrete truck arrives.

Understanding the property
Existing cracks, settlement and puddles offer clues. Fixed elevations, access, utilities, retained features and the intended use are documented before a scope is set.
Removing what is there
Concrete is broken into manageable sections, removed and disposed of. Homeowners will see equipment, debris handling and a cleared area rather than a neat finished base immediately.
Preparing below the slab
Excavation exposes the existing support. Unsuitable or inconsistent areas are addressed, then base material is placed and compacted for the actual use and conditions.
Setting forms and elevations
Forms establish edges and the surface profile. Doors, garage thresholds, steps, sidewalks and surrounding grade are checked so the slab has workable connections and drainage.
Placing the concrete
Concrete reaches the forms by a method suited to access. The crew distributes and consolidates the material while maintaining the planned elevations. This is a time-sensitive phase.
Finishing
The selected broom, exposed aggregate or stamped system is created as the concrete reaches the appropriate stage. Weather and material response affect timing.
Joints
Control joints provide planned locations for shrinkage movement. Their spacing and layout respond to slab shape; they reduce random cracking risk but do not promise a crack-free surface.
Curing
Concrete continues gaining strength after finishing. The curing approach and restrictions protect moisture and surface conditions during this early period. Use should resume according to project-specific instructions.
Cleanup and return to use
Forms are removed at the appropriate time, debris is cleared and disturbed edges are addressed within the agreed scope. Homeowners receive guidance on access and any finish maintenance.
