Concrete contractor in St. Catharines

Existing exterior concrete can fail in several ways. A weathered surface, a stable crack and two slabs that have moved to different heights do not point to the same response.

01

Separate surface damage from movement

Scaling affects the upper surface. Settlement changes the entire slab elevation. A crack may be stable or may mark ongoing movement. Looking at the surrounding grade and the way water behaves gives those observations context.

Local repair can be practical where damage is isolated and sound concrete remains. It cannot correct the route of a driveway or patio that drains to the wrong place.

02

Demolition opens the next decision

Removing a driveway, step or patio exposes the material below and any areas disturbed by old utilities or water. That information guides excavation and base correction.

The disposal and access method also depends on the site. Backyard slabs behind a narrow gate require a different sequence from a driveway beside the street.

03

Rebuild connections deliberately

A front walk may meet older steps and a newer driveway; a patio may meet a low rear door and high lawn. The new slab should resolve those real edges rather than assuming the previous surface was correct.

Colour differences remain where new work meets concrete left in place. An honest project plan treats that meeting as a visible joint.
